This Seasonal Part-Time (70%) position will work a rotating shift that will vary depending on demand and scheduling needs, and may include occasional evenings, weekends and holidays. Anticipated season dates for 2012 are May 18th through September 3rd.

This position presents, publicizes and develops interpretive programs in order to educate the public about the natural, scientific, historical and recreational aspects of Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park. Position involves working underground giving interpretive presentations in confined spaces typical of caves. Most of the work day will be spent standing or walking (6-8 hours/day for 2-5 miles/day) on concrete or steel surfaces.

Responsibilities include:

-Present interpretive activities to a variety of audiences.
-Evaluate/update presentations, activities, procedures and information.
-Research natural and cultural history information from a variety of sources for presentation development and resource assessment.
-Develop interpretive activities (such as hikes, slide/PowerPoint programs, campfire presentations, etc.) and materials.
-Develop interpretive themes, objectives, content and procedures for interpretive activities and acquire needed materials for them.
-Publicize and promote the park and its resources, interpretive services, recreational opportunities and resource management activities.
-Serve as a technical resource for local community, park visitors and staff by answering inquiries about area and park specific resources.
-Discuss/exchange information on park operations, interpretive services and resource management issues with park management team.
-Train, schedule and provide work direction to interns and volunteers.
-Sell tour tickets and merchandise; some record-keeping.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet the following:
Bachelor's degree in one of the physical sciences such as ecology, zoology, botany, geology OR a cultural resource focused degree such as American history, anthropology, archeology, OR parks and recreation management OR equivalent.

*PLEASE NOTE* Applicants who do not have current status in an Interpretive Naturalist 1-Parks position with the Department of Natural Resources ARE REQUIRED TO REQUEST, COMPLETE AND RETURN A QUESTIONNAIRE that assesses college course work in: a) natural or cultural resources such as earth science, ecology, zoology, botany, geology (minimum of 21 quarter/14 semester credits required) AND b) communications and/or education, AND c) park or forest recreation or natural or cultural resource interpretation, ALONG WITH SUPPORTING TRANSCRIPTS, PLUS
2) A relevant degree; AND
3) Relevant experience.
