I liked it but I wish I didnt see it. I am scared to go "wet" caving again :yikes:

Aside from some stuppid stuff most of those situations could happen.

This movie should be used as part of a liability waver.

Pay attention to the weather and you can avoid all of these situations all together ;)

It rains every day here! Even in the dry season it's not very rare (>1:100) to get an unpredicted inch or two of rain.

Saw it a little over a week ago.

Meh.

The best part of seeing it was that it reminded me that I hate movies in 3D.

What is particularly sad, is that one of the women cave divers in the movie just died in a cave diving accident in Australia.

You didn't see her face in the movie.........she was in some of the underwater scenes with full gear and mask on.

You can find out more in the Accidents Forum.

Sanctum is out on DVD and 2D / 3D Blu-ray now. I bought the 2D version. Looks really nice. As much as I enjoyed the 3D in the theater, I didn't really miss it at home.

Watched it last night with my wife. She said, "wow, I didn't expect a Shakespearean tragedy." She also said that she would wear the dead girl's wetsuit.

And for what it's worth, now that I can watch the movie with pause and zoom, I'm sure that this is the watch that Frank uses towards the end-

Two years of abuse and still going strong. I was super happy with it for $60, now that it's down to $42 that's an even better deal.

Seeing the movie for a second time, I took more of a liking to the actors playing Frank and Josh. They did pretty good and made a believable father / son team.

"There's always slack somewhere." An interesting line, and a good way to look at things.

Agnes Milowka. Very sad indeed.

Her name is on the credits as a stunt diver. Found a really good video of her going through a restriction that looks tighter than the one shown in the movie-

Watched Sanctum again. Couple of questions-

Do cave divers ever wear full face masks like that?

And the gear they were wearing when the first girl bought it... do rebreathers not have an alternative air source? Or some way to safely offer air to your buddy?

Generally speaking, No. Occasionally someone will to narrate video or some other special reason.

Rebreather divers carry open circuit (Normal SCUBA) bail out cylinders in case of emergency so they can get off the rebreather in case of malfunction.

Funny that you just watched Sanctum, Jasen- it showed up last week at my house as part of my Netflix queue.

I can't motivate myself to watch it; I have this mental list of a myriad of 'that's not correct' moments that others have shared with me. Of course, the technical advisors didn't want to piss off James Cameron, and James Cameron doesn't strike me as much of a listener, anyway... ;--)

James Cameron's input into the film was the lending of the camera and his name for advertising. This was Andrew Wight's film.

I enjoyed the film myself. Half of it was exactly as cave diving is, half of it was completely preposterous. But I like (some) James Bond movies and they're very preposterous.

I also liked it as well. It was like "cliffhanger" in that while it was unrealistic, it wasn't pure fantasy with drooling and made for an exciting movie with some cool cave shots!

Thanks for the answers, firemedic1015. If I remember right she took off her bailout cylinders to get through the restriction.

John- give it a try. It's not perfect but there are some really nice shots of the caves and the divers. And the 3D map they make of the cave is neat.

That's a great way to describe it. Sums up the movie quite well.
