Amazing discovery, to be sure! :kewl:

I am trying to figure out why it is going to take them until 2020 to get a full expedition into the cave. I know these things don't come together instantly, and that there is a limited time window in which they can enter the cave. However, I would think they could pull everything together by summer of next year (assuming that summer is the best time to go?)

I'll bet that is one COLD cave! :yikes:

Trogman, we can put you into a dry suit, then attach a very long tether and drop you in there. That is not the problem.

The problem is getting you back out alive.

Another write up: https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/le ... rlaccs-pit

“If you think of a soccer field and you put that soccer field on its end, you have this pit going down,” geologist Catherine Hickson, who organized the reconnaissance effort in which Hollis explored the cave, told The Canadian Press.

According to what captnemo posted, they're doing recon in 2019, then a full expedition.

Someone sent me this link to the NY Times, and they have a little 3D rendering of the entrance pit.

Thanks for the info and the article link. Very nice find, and I love the 3D rendering!
