Cayman Brac

Postby Ronaldo » Nov 1, 2009 4:50 pm

My computer illiterate friend is going to the Cayman Islands next week.... He is interested in doing a day trip to Cayman Brac, which is known to have some nice caves, and he wanted me to ask if anyone can provide info and insight into going there from Cayman Island to go caving. Any info like a name of a caver to contact who has experience going there would be very helpful. Thanks Much!!!

I'll try again. The caves on Cayman Brac are modest and rather small compared to others found in the Caribbean, on Cuba and Puerto Rico for example. I'd suggest getting a copy of "Adventuring on Cayman Brac" from Amazon. Read the Chapter on caving and then decide if you want to go or not. And/or go to http://www.skipharper.com and see what's there about caving on 'The Brac', including a 'cave' map. There are over 14 caves, all karst of course.
Travel to 'the Brac' is rather problemmatic. I'd suggest going for an overnight visit thru Cayman Airways. Fly to Brac in the AM of the first day and leave in the PM of the second.
You may want to contact Craig Burhart, owner of In depth Watersports, http://www.indepthwatersports.com, for a room and more information on the caving scene.
You can also grab a room at La Esperanza. The owner, Bussy Dilbert, may pick you up at the airport, rent you a car and feed you, all in a very economic fashion. He has a website at http://www.laesperanza.com or .net .... phone is 345-948-0531.
Good luck.
